What is Periodontitis? How to Diagnose and Treat the Condition.

Periodontitis is a gum disease that can destroy the ligaments and bones around your teeth. It is best to prevent it by brushing and flossing regularly and going for regular dental check-ups.

Chronic periodontitis is a disease that causes inflammation due to accumulation of dental plaque, while aggressive periodontitis is a disease that causes multiple teeth infections.

Plaque starts to develop when food interacts with the bacteria in your mouth and hardens to form a tartar. It is impossible to remove tartar without a professional dental cleaning.

With time plaque will cause gingivitis, a mild form of gum disease. If left untreated periodontitis can cause loose teeth and decreases the immunity of the system.

The key to preventing gum disease is to get a dental cleaning at least once a year.

If the condition has gone to an advanced stage, a flap surgery and bone and tissue grafting surgery are performed.

Periodontitis can cause rheumatoid arthritis, respiratory disease, coronary artery disease and diabetes. Follow good oral hygiene and keep practicing it consistently for life.
